Giving in the Way of Allah (infaq) is a Defining Characteristic of Muslims
There is a most important truth revealed in the verse “You will not attain true goodness until you give of what you love,” (Surah Al ‘Imran, 92) One of the most basic qualities that leads people to “goodness” in the true sense is “altruism. ” The word itself means the willing and immediate renunciation of things a mortal possesses, adores and values. It means being prepared when necessary to undergo all kinds of difficulty and trouble for the values one believes in or those whom one loves, and to do all in one’s power on their behalf with enthusiasm, determination and will. It means being healthy to renounce one’s own interests when visaged with a choice between them and the values one upholds and the people one adores and to make all kinds of material and other sacrifices for their sake.
However, human passions have been created with a predisposition towards poor moral values such as selfishness and egotism. Unless properly trained, these selfish emotions come to absolutely dominate a person’s moral framework. Such a mortal thinks mainly of himself rather than of anyone else. He always wants the best, the most attractive, the most perfect of everything for himself. Yet he also anticipates everyone else to demonstrate understanding and self-sacrifice. Whenever he encounters any difficulty he anticipates those around him to undergo risks and inconvenience for him, and to support him even to the extent of foregoing their own interests. He desires to protect his own wishes and interests and to ensure his own assist and comfort. In an adverse situation a mortal might be healthy to renounce many things he values – in the study of protecting his or her interests and preventing any harm from coming to him. Allah has revealed this excessive selfishness in the human spirit in the Qur’an:
Truly man was created headstrong – desperate when bad things happen, begrudging when good things come. (Surat al-Ma‘arij, 19-21)
It is doable to free one’s spirit from this weakness by understanding establishment and living by the moral values of the Qur’an. Someone who comprehends the truths revealed in the Qur’an and the moral conception commanded by Allah will achieve a say of morality capable of exhibiting altruism at any moment of his life. That is because in the verse “It is the people who are safe-guarded from the avarice of their own selves who are successful” (Surat at-Taghabun, 64), Allah has revealed that it is safeguarding their desires from this vice that will lead people to salvation in this world and the next.
Allah has created the human conscience in order for people to protect their passions from evil and to attain the kind of moral values beloved of Him. The voice of that conscience shows people the way to refrain all forms of wickedness and to attain what is good. The deep love and powerful fear of Allah in the heart of a true believer prevents him from being vanquished by the wickedness of his desires. Knowing that the true purpose behind his existence in the life of this world is to attain Allah’s approval, such a mortal seeks to spend apiece moment of his life behaving in such a way that will be amusing to Allah. He knows that the life of this world is but short, and that a mortal must strive for the eternal life of the Hereafter. He never forgets that all the interests he obtains here are transitory, after which he will have to render statement to Allah. He knows that those who seek to ensure their own desires and interests in the life of this world, instead of seeking Allah’s approval, mercy and Paradise, might be rewarded with eternal suffering in the Hereafter. On the other hand, Allah will recompense altruistic moral values with goodness and beauty in this world and by eternal, incomparable blessings in the next. In the Qur’an, Allah imparts these glad tidings to people who behave morally,
Those who do good will have the ideal and more! Neither dust nor debasement will darken their faces. They are the Companions of the Garden, remaining in it timelessly, for ever. (Surah Yunus, 26)
So Allah gave them the reward of the world and the ideal reward of the Hereafter. Allah adores good-doers. (Surah Al ‘Imran, 148)
. . . If anyone desires the reward of the world, We will give him some of it. If anyone desires the reward of the Hereafter, We will give him some of it. We will recompense the thankful. (Surah Al ‘Imran, 145)
When one thinks of self-sacrifice, however, what comes to mind should not be solely giving away part of one’s material possessions, that part which represents more than one actually needs for oneself. Self-sacrifice is a way of life that stems from strength of establishment and dominates a believer’s entire life. This spirit of altruism needs to be present within a sensitivity of conscience to everything going on around a person. Altrusim means a mortal seeking to feel himself responsible on apiece matter, from social problems to the oppressed, persecuted, starving and needy people all over the world, and striving to find a solution to them. It is the employment of one’s reason and conscience at the highest doable level, without ever saying, “There are plenty of people with the means and resources to resolve all these issues, so let them do it. ” It means those with a “vestige of good,” as revealed in the verse: “Would that there had been more people with a vestige of good among the generations of those who came before you, who forbade corruption in the Earth, other than the few among them whom We saved. Those who did wrong gladly pursued the life of luxury that they were given and were evildoers” (Surah Hud, 116), Muslims who believe, who listen to the voice of their consciences and fear Allah, acting in the knowledge of their responsibilities.
When we look at the events experienced by Muslims throughout the course of history we see that they have always been healthy to overcome troubles and diffculties in this way. Beginning with the Prophet Muhammad (saas), prefabricated a role model for all humanity by Allah, and his companions, Muslims have always lived this moral framework in the ideal manner doable and have been a means whereby, with their better solidarity and instances of self-sacrifice, Islam and the moral values of the Qur’an have spread all over the world. The better moral values and generosity of the Prophet (saas) are revealed thus in the hadiths:
* The Prophet (saas) was the most generous of people in auspicious deeds. The Prophet (saas) was more generous even than the wind blowing from the direction of good.
* He never stated “I do not possess such” when asked for something and never begrudged anything asked of him.
* Abu Zerr told me the following: “Son of my brother! I went to the Prophet’s (saas) side. Taking my hand, he said, ‘Abu Zerr! Even if I had as much gold and silver as Mount Uhud I would wish to spend it in the way of Allah, leaving not a farthing behind’. ”
The Prophet (saas), the finest role model for Muslims with his better moral values, encouraged the truehearted to be generous in these words during a sermon:
* In one of his sermons, after giving thanks to Allah he [The Prophet Muhammad (saas)] said: “O People! Know that Allah has chosen Islam for you as your religion. Adorn your Islam with generosity and amusing moral values. I wish you to know that generosity is a heavenly tree, with its roots in Paradise and its branches in this world. Those of you who have generosity will adhere to one of those branches, and that branch will carry him to Paradise. As for parsimoniousness, that is a tree with its roots in Hell and its branches in this world. Whoever clings to one of those branches by being parsimonious, it will carry him to Hell. ” Later the Prophet (saas) again said, “Be generous in the way of Allah. ”
The companions of the Prophet (saas) who were ready to unquestioningly give up their goods and lives in order to acquire the approval of Allah exhibited great examples of self-sacrifice throughout their lives. Since they possessed a sure and certain belief in Allah and the Hereafter they never regarded giving in the way of Allah (infaq) as representing any kind of loss; on the contrary, they saw it as an important opportunity to acquire the love of and closeness to Allah. As revealed by Allah in the verse: “And how is it with you that you do not give in the way of Allah, when the inheritance of the heavens and the Earth belongs to Allah? Those of you who gave and fought before the Victory are not the same as those who gave and fought afterwards. They are higher in rank. But to apiece of them Allah has promised the Best. Allah is aware of what you do. ” (Surat al-Hadid, 10), those who sacrificed their property in times of difficulty acted in the knowledge of the value of that action in the sight of Allah.
Therefore, all Muslims must take these better moral values of our Prophet (saas) and his companions as role models for themselves, and must compete with one another to help those in need. It must never be forgotten that self-sacrifice performed with true sincerity is most valued in the sight of our Lord and a marvellous opportunity for Muslims who seek to attain the infinite blessings of Paradise.

American-muslim Author Promotes Islam?s Anti-slavery Message in New Children?s Book
“Writing this book was like living through an epic adventure for me,” described Corey Habbas, author and illustrator of The Runaway Scarf (Muslim Writers Publishing, 2008). In an interview, Habbas described the process of transforming her intent into a Muslim children’s book, a series of events that took almost 4 years from concept to publication.
Habbas was concerned that a non-Muslim entertainment media often portrays Muslims as oppressive in many TV and cinematic productions. Habbas, as well as many other Muslims living in America, feel that these distorted portrayals make it more likely that non-Muslims draw the false conclusion that Islam condones oppression.
Habbas asserts, “There are so many Qur’an verses and haddiths that talk against oppression. ”
Dr. Muzammil H. Siddiqi, the President of the Fiqh Council of North America, states in an IslamOnline. net fatwa question and answer forum on slavery, “The Qur’an instructs that freeing the slaves is a great virtue (See Surah 90:13). One of the expenditures of zakah (obligatory charity) is to spend the money for the freedom of the slaves (surah 9:60). It is forbidden in Islam to enslave a free person. ”
Habbas wanted to convey similar concepts to kids in an pleasing and captivating way, so after happening upon a hadith that spoke of a slave who left her oppressors, Habbas wrote a children’s story. She then spent a year planning and illustrating the drawings by hand.
“Previous to 2007 the book was to be subsidy published by another individual who had concurred to sponsor it through their business. Then funds dried up,” recalls Habbas who spent a long inactivity period hoping that funds would become available.
When that didn’t happen, Habbas then considered self publishing her story and drawings, that is, until Muslim Writers Publishing picked up the manuscript.
“Muslim Writers Publishing was wonderful to work with. Linda really invests a lot of her time making sure that the publication process is transparent to the author. I felt really grateful about that,” states Habbas. “I pray that the book will be something of value for parents, educators and children. “
Habbas notes that the act of writing fiction for Muslims can bring with it a huge responsibility to ensure that Islamic values are presented accurately and that fact is separate from fiction. Habbas states this is why the book contains a disclaimer stating that The Runaway Scarf is a work of fiction and that parents and instructors must make sure to instill in kids the capability to discern the difference.
“Teaching Islamic concepts to kids in creative ways, brings with it a heavy responsibility of making sure students comprehend the difference between concepts taught by other means and the actual scripture itself,” offers Habbas. She plans to wage a free online teaching supplement so that educators can use The Runaway Scarf in classroom lessons.
She is also hoping that K-12 librarians and educators in the United Says use the book to expose non-Muslim kids to Islamic culture and heritage.
Habbas says, “It would mean a lot if The Runaway Scarf prefabricated it outside of the Muslim community. It would be like a door opening between Muslim and non-Muslim kids. ”
The Runaway Scarf is a 52 page, color-illustrated paperback book, published by Muslim Writers Publishing and is acquirable for buy from stores including Amazon. com, BarnesandNoble. com and other bookstores.
Muslim Writers Publishing, a traditional publishing business, is based in Arizona and is owned by Linda Delgado, founder of the Islamic Writers Alliance. MWP specializes in English Language Islamic Fiction (ELIF) titles for adults, teens and children.

As apiece Muslim knows or should know that Iman (firm belief) is the foremost and essential stipulation of Islam. Without proper Iman, one can't become a Muslim even if anyone born in a Muslim family. In fact,Iman is something which has to be self consciously acquired in order to become a Muslim, which constantly maintained in order to remain a Muslim and also continually reinforced and fortified in order to begin the next life as a Muslim. Therefore,Iman is something which should not be taken for granted, but unfortunately many of us has taken it for granted. Now, If Iman (belief) has a significance that it is the purpose of life here and a saviour in the hereafter, then it becomes necessary for apiece of us to find out what Iman really is. It is not right to state that I am a Muslim and therefore I have Iman because I was born in a Muslim family. What is Iman and what is its definition in the context of Islam? This is a fundamental question concerning Muslims and Islam. But one thing is quite clear: A definition of Iman which contradicts any Quranic principle can't be accepted as Iman in Islam, no matter where and whom so ever it might have come from. After this preamble, let us explore first of all the meaning of the arabic word Iman and its definition given in the Quran by Allah Almighty.
The root of the word Iman in arabic is a-m-n which means: to be calm and quiet in one’s heart; to be fortified from fear; trustworthiness and truthfulness (Taj al-Urus). Iman means to accept truthfully to be convinced to verify something to rely upon or have confidence in something. Iman is usually translated in English as establishment or belief, and establishment in turn signifies acceptance without proof or argument, without reference to reason or thought, knowledge or insight. According to the Quran, Iman is conviction which is based upon reason and knowledge; a conviction that results from full mental acceptance and intellectual satisfaction; the kind of conviction that gives a feeling of inner contentment and peace. And a Mumin is one who accepts truth in such a way that it ensures his own peace and helps him to measure the peace and security of the rest of mankind. In fact, Al- Mumin is one of the attributes of God Himself Quran chapter 59 verse 23.

Hasan A. Yahya, Ph. Ds
This article is written for Muslims and non-Muslims for knowledge and understanding between cultures. After reading this article, you will acquire some knowledge about a misunderstood Islamic occasions, sometimes among its followers. Yes, a lot of them think that this Eid is so cruel to sheep and is so uncivilized. Because they did not know the reasons for this Eid,Or they do judge the act from the outside. It’s just an invitation to take a deeper look on the occasion.
1. Eid al-Adha is one of the two main occasions for Muslim to celebrate. The occasion is to share those who went for pilgrimage to Makka apiece year. Nearly about three million people gather apiece year to perform the fifth principle in Muslim Faith. After Shahadatayn, prayer, fasting and giving alms or Zakat. Muslim have to take meat (Sheep, Cows, and checkens, are legal, but pork like in the Jewish establishment is illegal). Eid Al Adha, means the “Fest of Sacrifice”. Muslims celebrate it in remembrance of the story of prophet Ibrahim. As you know God tests us all the time. And God wanted Ibrahim to establish his strong belief in him by checking if he’d do anything for the love of God. So God asked him to kill his own son, which is something impossible normally, and which was so harsh on Ibrahim, but still he selected to fulfill God’s will and kill his son. But the minute he was about to kill his son, God replaced the boy with a sheep to be killed instead of the boy as a reward for his strong belief, proving once again that God tests people’s establishment but is never willing to injured them.
2. Eid Al Adha is an occasion to remember God’s mercy and the devotion and establishment of the believers. It’s an occasion to share the poor and give them a chance to take meat that they can’t afford. If you can afford buying a sheep, then never forget to donate as much as you can for the poor, this is the spirit of Eid Al Adha, it’s not about showing off nor stuffing yourself with different meat dishes. And make sure you use appropriate places for the purpose of slaughtering, and streets aren’t the place for sure. Yet the difference between what God asked us to do and what people are actually doing is what destroyed the equilibrise of nature. God asked us to be good to other creatures, care for them and when we need them, we should do our ideal not to injured them. You shouldn’t cut off the leaves of a plant for fun, you shouldn’t burn it and you should use it in a gentle way. Just like animals, you shouldn’t torture them and you shouldn’t use them in a bad way. So no negative use, but you can still use them. “I will not take meat. I don’t want to have Mad Cow Disease”, anyone who states this has the right to be scared, but the problem won’t be solved that way. We wouldn’t have got Mad Cow Disease nor Birds’ flue or any other animal disease if we took the right precautions before intake their meat. And God has created us all to live together and improve. Animals take plants and other animals and sometimes humans. And Humans take plants and animals and some plants take other plants and insects and live on the rest of dead bodies. We’re all created as a natural circle and practice loyalty to God. To justify this point, many people might not be satisfied with this argument, but it’s serious, actually a lot of normal people test others’ loyalty towards them in different ways. Men test women’s love, women test men’s loyalty, children test their family’s appreciation, friends test apiece other’s trust… etc. Some ways could be reasonable like for example a papa asking his son to stop smoking to show his love for his dad, or a mother asking her tiny girl to take all her dish to establish her love for her mom. And some are silly, like a woman asking her husband to sell the dearest thing he has just to establish his love for her. Or a guy asking a girl to forget about the whole world and run away with him to a new place where he has no life and no future at all, just to establish her love for him. . . But the difference between God’s testing and people’s testing is that God just tests and isn’t inactivity for things to actually happen, and God rewards without you even doing the thing. God wants nothing in return. But people, we ask, we want things to be done our way, and then we’re just “pleased”. No rewards but a “thank you” that might not even come from the bottom of the heart.
3. Eid al-Adha is an act celebrated to please God and have His forgiveness, no matter what logic behind it. Some people believe as animal friends and call for the rights of animals and all, when they actually aren’t any different from those who take animal meat. It is a fact, that we all eat, some take everything, some take only vegetables, or fruits or serials. The thing is when you take vegetables you are intake living creatures as well. And if something doesn’t have eyes nor legs, or if it doesn’t have a mouth, that doesn’t mean it’s dead! Plants are alive, they have souls, they have families, a grand tree, a baby plant … they’re just like all other living creatures.
4. One more point I have to explain here, concerning some words describe meat in the super-markets such as “Halal” meat. It means it was slaughtered following Islamic instructions, which are: taking a healthy animal (sheep, cow, chicken. . ), then saying: “In the study of God the Merciful” to it (yes you should speak to it to calm it down and show respect to its soul as well as mercy for its body) and then swiftly cut a certain vein in a certain point in the neck. And if you make a swift research you’ll find out that it’s the ideal way for both the animal and the human, why? For the animal because it’s so quick, and hits the point where pain is felt the least, so it doesn’t injured the animal at all, opposite to using electric shocks and stuff which leaves the animal suffering before it’s dead. And good for the humans because this cut vein releases excess old blood (following scientific pressure rules) leaving the body with only pure fresh blood that was newly generated and that will be easily took out of the body while cooking. Oh, and last but not least, the released blood should be cleaned away. (1150 words) www. hasanyahya. com
